GET TO KNOW ME I’m Dr. Wildlife - a Conservation Biologist based in Toronto, Canada. |
I'm Dr. Wildlife, a zoologist who focuses on conservation through education by working in the zoo and aquarium field. A lifelong animal conservationist, I have helped with projects around the world from rehabilitating injured seabirds in South Africa to tracking tigers in central India. My involvement in the zoological community has so far spanned 13 years and has included such positions as Keeper Aide at the Memphis Zoo to Migratory Bird Researcher at the Smithsonian. When not conducting research or at work, I do creative forms of science communication through Twitter, YouTube, and even in person at scientific gatherings such as EarthX.

I have a strong passion for wildlife and nature.
Growing up on a rural farm fostered my love for all things outdoors and animal-related. After assisting our local veterinarian in caring for our farm animals throughout my high school years, I quickly realized an animal-related career was the path for me.

Although my life started out simple down a dirt road in Arkansas, my path has led me to working at accredited zoos, leading non-profit organizations, and even volunteering at animal facilities half way around the world. I now have 13 years of experience in my career. I love to talk about and inspire others to follow their dreams just as I did mine.

Joining the furry fandom has allowed me to relax and find peace with myself.
Despite how I may appear when doing public speaking, I am a relatively shy person who has never felt entirely comfortable with expressing myself. Throw me into one of my fursuits, though, and I am suddenly able to relax and be goofy again. Joining the fandom has led me to a way of expressing myself which I never thought I would be able to do. I have also found an amazing network of friends who I often consider to be a type of family to me. By donating my time and skills to conventions, I feel like I am giving back to the community who has given so much to me. By organizing so many local meets and related events, I hope to show others just how amazing this fandom is so they too can find a way to relax and express themselves just as I have. |
